Roles and Positions
On Camera
Actors-
Anyone who says lines on camera. One scene or many, minor, supporting, or lead role.
Extras-
Any actor who has no lines, but fills out the scene. Most flexible on-camera role.
Stunt and Fight Performers-
The people who train to make the action scenes look good. Most physically demanding on screen position.
Behind the Scenes
AD (Assistant Director)-
1st, 2nd, and 3rd, their jobs are to interface with people, and make sure everyone and everything is where it needs to be, when it needs to be there.
Camera/DP-
Film shots and scenes. Set up composition and lighting. Some experience required.
Script Supervisor/Continuity-
Make sure things are consistent between takes, from where a glass of water is on a table, to how someone touches their face and when.
Costuming-
Finding and making costumes for the characters. This can include designing, sewing, and distressing the clothing.
Hair and Makeup-
Both making the character look like they're supposed to, but also using effects makeup (blood, dirt, prosthetics, etc.) as needed.
Masks and Prosthetics-
Making creature heads and hands, or simple scars and ears.
Props-
Making or finding the things actors use, from rings to bowls to swords.
Model Building-
Building miniature vehicles and locations for effects shots.
Set Construction-
Build, paint, and dress the sets for scenes.
Sound Recording-
Capture the dialog on set during the shoot.
Foley and Sound Design-
Capturing sound after the fact, and mixing it to create a mood or specific sound for anything from doors to dragons.
Composer and Musicians-
The most important element in a movie, after the visuals. Composes and records the score for the movie.
Visual Effects-
Anything from adding fire to a scene, to integrating a model into a shot, to animating a creature.
Craft Services-
Feeding people and keeping morale up.
Behind the Scenes Photographer/Videographer-
Records the process of making the project, and interfaces with the Director and Social Media Manager for best use of the footage.
Support aka “The Producers”
Funding-
Providing funds to pay for the raw materials we couldn't source, anything we can't make ourselves, and all other expenses of pre- and post-production.
Marketing and Distribution-
Getting eyes on the project, and selling it to our audience. Some experience needed.
Sourcing and Procurement-
Finding the raw materials, (from metal, to cloth, to lumber,) that are needed to make things for the production. (“Free” is the best price.)
Locations-
Finding or providing places to build sets or shoot scenes, ideally away from road noises.
Social Media Manager/ Content Creators-
Creating the social media posts to keep eyes on what we do, and build the audience and community.
